Medical
massage therapy
Our society has moved away from touch. Yet
research shows that human beings benefit from tactile contact
as an essential mode of nourishment. Common sense and observation
reveal the inherent tendency to touch one another to connect,
support, and heal. Massage therapy is the profession through which
educated touch is now delivered. Medical
massage therapy enhances this role by increasing a massage practitioner's
training and skills to reach higher standards of clinical effectiveness.
Unlike its spa or salon counterpart, medical massage therapy as
used in this office integrates neuromuscular rehabilitation, myofascial
therapy, structural integration, and visceral manipulation to
focus on results and successfully treat acute and chronic conditions
alike.
Visceral manipulation
Visceral manipulation concentrates on the massage,
drainage, and release of organs within the abdominal cavity. The
viscera accumulate areas of tension, which over time produce decreased
function, inflammation, and pain. Often combined with herbal medicine,
visceral manipulation achieves outstanding results with a variety
of conditions based on functional restrictions, such as menstrual
cramps, constipation, and hiatal hernia.
Educated touch is a skill that is acquired
through training and continued practice. To ensure safety and
quality of care in massage therapy, it is in the patient's best
interest to demand that a practitioner, including one with another
health-related degree, legally display the Certified Massage Therapist
(CMT) designation.
Medical massage therapy services provided in
this office are covered by insurance.
